England Premiership Week 1 : Manchester United 1 – 2 Swans

In a shocking opening match, Manchester United’s new manager Luis van Gaal suffered his first defeat in the 2014 – 2015 England Premiership season. Van Gaal surely hopes the loss has no meaning to his hopes of returning Man Utd to the top tier of the table and qualification for European competition next season.

New £24m signing Spaniard Ander Herrera made his Red Devils debut and was replaced by David Moyes signing Marouane Fellani.

United fans were harsh in their criticism and quick to complain about the match, possibly worried that van Gaal is not the right replacement yet for retired Sir Alex Ferguson.

United had key players out with injury including Robin van Persie, Michael Carrick, Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw and Rafael.

Van Gaal’s side had some realistic feedback that they have a battle ahead to reclaim the Premiership title.

Juan Mata played in his preferred position in the central role behind two strikers, United captain Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernández.

After the match, Dutchman Van Gaal remarked that his men did not play as a team.

Manchester United next home game is against Queens Park Rangers at Old Trafford on September 12th.
